Belitung, or Belitong formerly known as Billiton, is an island off the east coast of Sumatra. The island is famous for its white pepper, locally called sahang, and mining products such as white tin, quartz sand, white clay (kaolin), and granite.

Belitung is also known as the Land of Laskar Pelangi. It is nicknamed the Land of Laskar Pelangi because Belitung Island was once used as a shooting location for the film Laskar Pelangi in 2008. The film, which was adapted from a novel by Andrea Hirata, was once popular and set a record as one of the best-selling Indonesian films of all time, with an audience of 4.6 million. Meanwhile, the thing that is most memorable for the audience of the film Laskar Pelangi is the natural panorama of its beaches which are so amazing. The natural beauty of Belitung Island is clearly depicted in the film.

Belitung Island is divided into 2 districts, namely Belitung district with its capital in Tanjungpandan, and East Belitung with its capital in Manggar

Most of its residents, especially those living in coastal areas, are very familiar with marine life rich in marine fish. Various processed foods made from fish are the daily food of its residents. Marine wealth is one of the sources of livelihood for the people of Belitung. A natural resource that is no less important for the lives of the Belitung people is tin. Tin mining efforts have been started since the Dutch East Indies era.

To reach Belitung Island there are two accesses, namely by plane and by ship. However, for tourism we recommend taking a plane. Because taking a ship takes a long time, about 18 hours, while by plane we only need 50 minutes from Soekarno Hatta Airport, Jakarta. To Hanadjoedin Airport in Tanjungpandan City, Belitung.
